Golf in India

The game of Golf was introduced to India way back in the 1820s. As a sport, it has made rapid strides across the length and breadth of India. Over the passing years, Indian golfers have consistently delivered good performance at both domestic and international events. Moreover, the domestic tour is being organized in a professional manner and has been given its due recognition in the homeland. The golden age of Indian golf, which was started with Ali Sher's memorable Indian Open triumph, is continuing to be as forceful as before, with the golfers breaking fresh grounds in distant lands.

In addition to the commendable performances by the Golf players of India, the Indian Golf Union (IGU), the administrative body for the management and promotion of Golfin India, is making earnest efforts to improve the standard of the game in the country. Established in 1955, IGU made a significant decision made in 1995, which gave rise to the birth of a separate body for the sport - Professional Golfers' Association of India (PGAI). Golf players including Jyoti Randhawa, Jeev Milka Singh, Shiv Kapur, Gaurav Ghei and Arjun are some of the players, who have established their names in the Golf in India.
