Riding piggyback on a booming economy and healthy GDP growth, Indian real estate industry has been expanding at an exponential rate. Favorable demographics, rising purchasing power, availability of cheap finance, professionalism in real estate and reforms initiated by the government are some of the major drivers of this spectacular growth. According to industry estimates, the real estate industry in India has been growing at 33 per cent CAGR (compound annual growth rate) and could be a $50 billion industry in the next four years. The upturn straddles all the major sectors of the industry such as commercial, residential, retail, industrial, hospitality and healthcare.

The burgeoning outsourcing and IT/ITES industry have contributed to the demand for quality office space. With most of the blue-chip MNCs setting shop in the country, the estimated demand from IT/ITES sector alone is expected to be 150 million sq ft of space across the major cities by 2010. In the residential segment, availability of easy home finance and rising purchasing power has driven the growth. Builders are launching high-end, lifestyle residential products to cater to the growing bunch of high net worth individuals. In residential sector there is housing shortage of 19.4 million units out of which 6.7 million are in urban India.

In the retail segment, the country has experienced mushrooming of retail projects across the cities. Specialized malls have become the order of the day. Gurgaon, on the suburbs of New Delhi will soon have an auto mall, while Bangalore is about to get an exclusive furniture mall. The sprawling skyscrapers, marvelously designed residence, awe-inspiring malls and promising infrastructure, along with exemplary acumen to designing and scheming have made India's real estate sector, one amongst the bustling and growing fields. With India being the most alluring destination for foreign investors, there is a huge market waiting to be splurged upon.

Spirituality and mystical charm have always drawn people from all over the world to India. As the world becomes increasingly capitalistic and materialist, the quest and urgency for spirituality grows more and more. The traditional Indian way of life has helped in the evolution and growth of Spiritualism. Numerous cultures and religions have thrived and flourished together for ages and resulted into the unique Indian way of life.

At different points in the history of our civilization numerous spiritual leaders and saints have delivered the message of peace, brotherhood and co existence that is so very well rooted in our culture. Arts like Yoga and Ayurveda coupled with religion have played an important role in the evolution and existence of spirituality in India. Through the ages, various Ashrams and centers of excellence came up in different parts of India. These centers have helped in spreading the message of compassion, care and positive living.

Thus, Indian spirituality is all about showing respect to all living beings-animals trees, rocks and even water and lead a positive and healthy life. It is believed that the supreme Creator has put each one of us in this world for a purpose and that purpose is to be compassionate, caring and loving to one-another. As mentioned earlier, the great Indian spiritual personalities and gurus have played an important role in spreading the message of love, care and the need for positive living all over the world.

The varied terrain of the Indian subcontinent has led to the creation of a wide variety of habitats. This has resulted in the growth of a rich wildlife in India, comprising of wild animals, birds, reptiles, etc. With time, the popularity of watching the wild animals and birds in their natural habitat grew, but their population declined. The government of India took a major step in this direction and started conservation programs, aimed at developing protected areas for wild animals and birds, along with programs aimed at augmenting their population through breeding. Indian wildlife has now become a major attraction for most of the tourists coming to the country.

Wimbledon

The Championships Wimbledon, most prestigious tennis tournament in the world, is the oldest of the Grand Slams. Held by The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, Wimbledon is played on the grass surface. Grass is the fastest among all outdoor courts and suits the players who have serve-and-volley game and are capable of playing flatter shots.

Brief Profile
The Wimbledon tournament was first played in 1877. Only male players took part in it. Women's participation began in 1884. Located in London, Wimbledon has the grass court surface. The tournament begins late June and finishes early July. As for the sizes of draws, Men's and Women's Singles are 128, Men's and Women's Doubles are 64, and mixed doubles are 48. All major matches are played at the centre court.

Wimbledon Tournaments
In the Wimbledon, separate tournaments are simultaneously held, all at the same venue, for Gentlemen's Singles, Ladies' Singles, Gentlemen's Doubles, Ladies' Doubles and Mixed Doubles. Tournaments for youth - Boys' Singles, Girls' Singles, Boys' Doubles and Girls' Doubles - are also held. Sspecial invitational tournaments are held like the 35 and over Gentlemen's Doubles, 45 and over Gentlemen's Doubles, 35 and over Ladies' Doubles and wheelchair doubles.

The Grand Slams
There are four major tennis tournaments, called the Grand Slam tournaments: the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and U.S. Open. The wimbledon is considered by many as the most prestigious among these.

Wimbledon, the Place
Wimbledon is a suburb of London. For the past century, Wimbledon has been internationally known as the home of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships. Wimbledon's attraction remains its combination of easy access to central London with the benefit of plentiful recreational facilities. The newly reopened New Wimbledon Theatre on the Broadway is also popular throughout London, bringing a large number of West End productions. Wimbledon Village offers a good collection of bistros, restaurants and pubs and during the fortnight of the tennis championship the streets are crowded with visitors enjoying the facilities.

Wimbledon 2008
Wimbledon 2008 Championship will begin on 23rd June and conclude on 6th July. Like its previous editions,Wimbledon 2008 is also expected to generate lots of excitement and passion.

Indian Premier League

The DLF Indian Premier League or the IPL is a Twenty20 cricket tournament, backed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Season - 1 of the DLF Indian Premier League was introduced on 18 April, 2008. Eight teams from all over the country are participating in what will be the debut version of the Indian Premier League. The eight teams are representing the eight major cities of India.

The DLF Indian Premier League 2008 will consist of 59 matches and will go on for 44 days. The IPL works on the basis of franchise system, much like the American system of hiring players.

All the franchises were put on auction where the highest bidder won the rights of a particular team. On January 24, 2008 the auction took place and the total price for the auction was $400 million. However, the auction roped in a staggering $723.59 million. Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Yuvraj Singh have been declared as the 'Icon Players' by the BCCI which means that they will represent the city in which they are based. An 'Icon Player' will also get 15% more match fee than what the highest paid member of that particular team will get. Apart from this, there was another clause with regard to the whole bidding procedure which stated that each team could not select more than two Australian players each.

Some of the world's best known players are participating in the tournament. They were bought by an open auction by a host of well known businessmen and celebrities. The list of franchise owners and celebrities include names like Mukesh Ambani, whose Reliance Industries got the Mumbai franchise for $111.9 million over a period of 10 years; liquor giant and business tycoon Vijay Mallya who is also the owner of a Formula 1 team, acquired the Bangalore franchise for $111.6 million; Bollywood super star Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment won the Kolkata Knight Riders for $75 million while another Bollywood star Preity Zinta and Ness Wadia together won the Chandigarh franchise for $75 million. The team which wins the first edition of the DLF Indian Premier League will get richer by $3 million.

Indian cricket star Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Australia's Andrew Symonds fetched big amounts with the Chennai franchise buying Dhoni for US$1.5 million while Symonds was bought by the Hyderabad franchise for US$1.3 million. But everyone was not so lucky; Australia's Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath were sold for US$450,000 and US$350,000 respectively.

The Indian Premier League has some of the top names from Australia, South Africa and New Zealand as coaches for the teams. While Mohali signed former Sri Lanka coach Tom Moody, Kolkata got former Australian coach John Buchanan as their coach. Former New Zealand captain Martin Crowe is the advisor of the Bangalore franchise while Delhi recruited Victoria coach Greg Shipperd. The coach of Chennai will be former South Africa captain Kepler Wessels. Hyderabad will be coached by Indian fielding coach Robin Singh and Jaipur's coach and captain will be Shane Warne.

IPL has generated tremendous amount of hype since it gives an opportunity to top players of different countries to play alongside with each other in the same team. So, one can see Saurav Ganguly sharing the crease with Ricky Ponting and Irfan Pathan sharing the new ball with Bret Lee. . Indian Premier League has got the backing of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and it is expected that ICC will make its future schedule keeping in mind the commitment of IPL.

Tennis in India

The game of tennis enjoys a considerable following in India, thanks to the achievements of some of the leading players. However, much unlike the present scenario, tennis had a modest start. British are credited for the inception of tennis as a game in India in 1880s. Gradually the game based it roots in India and tournaments like 'Punjab Lawn tennis Championship' at Lahore, 'Bengal Lawn Tennis Championship' at Calcutta and the 'All India Tennis Championships' at Allahabad started taking place. Some years after the inception, the All India Tennis Association (AITA) was formed, which became the apex body governing the game of tennis in India.

Though AITA organized various national and international tournaments, it was not until the mid 1990s that India gained international recognition and fame. Players, such as Ramanathan Krishnan, Jaidip Mukerjea and Premjit Lal, dominated the game and changed the scenario completely. Talking about the present times, while Leander Paes-Mahesh Bhupathi duo dominated the double circuit by annexing a host of Grand Slam titles, Sania Mirza, Karan Rastogi, and Rohan Bopanna.have emerged as a teen idol with their impressive performances. With such budding players and promising youngsters dominating the Indian tennis, the future of the game in the country looks bright and indeed rosy.

Table Tennis in India

Table tennis in India has come a long way from being an after-dinner amusement to a professional sport. Right from it was brought to India by the British; the game has witnessed a number of changes in terms of its promotion and management. The establishment of the Table Tennis Federation of India in 1937 has proved to be favorable for its governance, which has been well. However, despite having one of the most efficient administrative bodies in country, the game has failed to produce excellent talents.

Talking about the performance at the national level, the Indian table tennis players have been struggling hard to exhibit their talent at the important international events. Lack of major success at the international stage has resulted in stagnation and the popularity of the game has nosedived in comparison to games like cricket and tennis. At the team level, India's most cherished performance has been the World Championships in Gothenburg, where it was placed at the 12th position.

The fact that even in the midst of such sustained mediocrity, India has played host to three World Champions is a tribute to the organizational efficiency present in the game. Moreover, table tennis has been one of the few games to find favor with institutional organizations like oil companies and banks. The game continues to feature at the competitions held by school, universities and other institutions, wherein it has achieved reasonable popularity.
